For some time I've hankered after a baritone fretless. First I tried to persuade Vigier to make one, but Patrice explained his machinery was geared to normal guitar. So then I tried a couple of UK guitar makers only to get a twelve month lead time. So I sat for a while thinking.
I had planned a ritual unfretting of the Hamer (the one fitted with a sustainer) see webpages for that mod. But then already having a couple of fretless introducing a "me too" was not a good road to travel.
Then one day, maybe in the bath, it came to me; fit a baritone neck to the Hamer, then you have everything you wanted on a baritone, the sustainer, the midi output, and its more cost effective than a complete new build.
So I found a local luthier, but sadly, after looking at the project for a few weeks it was apparent his workload would not allow the project to reach fruition.
So what to do? The usual answer is; if you want a job doing, you better do it yourself.
Now its game on! The aim is to have a working baritone fretless by New Year's Day.
Stand by your beds - will it be a white Christmas or a white wash if the baritone is not born 1/1/2005?

No guitars were harmed during the collection of the information presented in this post.
Can't say the same thing for frets though...

something inspired you to increase your length then, Jeff? :(

So you're going to build the neck from scratch? - cool!

lots of pictures to follow I hope (of the build - not what inspired you in the bath! )

Mind you, you must know that already.
I think the length thing must be due to all those Spamails going the rounds. V<^>V

These days I'm not sure!

back for just today, tomorrow I must head off villageward again for the 3rd time in as many weeks -

I'll be going back to my old village for the last time ever this week probably - does that make me a cityboy now?

Is your village in Cornwall?

or is there just one vast omnipresent village?

or just omnipresent length & spam problems?

(back for just a couple of posts and he's disrupted the whole bloody forum already - sorry guys)

Does it make you Norwegian?

The Village is not in Cornwall and I have to keep the location quiet so as not to attract coachloads of pensioners.

Omnipresents - we don't do much philosophy here, what was this thread originally about?

My God, you guys are outrageous!!!
Now I'm doubting my own motives, want to be three inches bigger? When its already 25.5 inches, isn't that academic? No size does count.
Its all extensions, car / guitar, what next?

Remember the wangcaster?

maybe the more you play with it, the more baritone it becomes..

just don't take it out in the cold - you'll end up with a ukelele... :(

Back on track...

did you mention somewhere that you'd comissioned a replacement neck, Jeff?

Oh, you do make me larf...

Yep, the Warmoth boys are producing a bolt on neck with ebony board. About six weeks they say. Full details and picks in, err... six weeks. --J

I'm looking forward to watching Jahloon try to fit the enlarged one into its original case. V
